Common mistakes to avoid
- Filing Form I-526 for a regional center investment. USCIS rejects it; use I-526E.
- Filing before the regional center has a Form I-956F receipt notice. USCIS may reject the petition.
- Paying the fees for I-526E and I-485, I-131, or I-765 in one combined payment. USCIS rejects all of them.
- Leaving out the separate $1,000 fee on an initial petition.
- Thin source of funds evidence. The instructions list tax returns from the last 7 years and records of gifts or loans.
- Not naming a money service business or other third party used to transfer funds.
- Answering no to a bona fides question because a record was sealed. The instructions say to answer yes.
- Not signing the form, or using a typed, stamped, or pasted image signature. USCIS rejects improperly signed forms.
