Common mistakes to avoid
- Completing Part 1 as a self-petitioner. USCIS says to skip Part 1 and complete Part 3.
- A widow(er) filing more than 2 years after the spouse's death, or after remarrying.
- Filing a widow(er) petition when the late spouse's Form I-130 already converted to an I-360.
- A religious worker petition without the signed employer attestation, or without the denomination certification when required.
- A Special Immigrant Juvenile petition filed after the 21st birthday, or without the juvenile court order findings.
- Paying $0 for a Special Immigrant Juvenile petition without the separate $250 Pub. L. 119-21 fee.
- Using the home address when it is not safe to receive mail there. VAWA filers may give a safe address in Part 1, Item 7.
- Not signing the form, or using a typed, stamped, or pasted image signature. USCIS rejects improperly signed forms.
