Common mistakes to avoid
- Crossing out or correcting an entry. The form says any correction or alteration will void it.
- Leaving parts blank. The form says it must be completed in its entirety, legibly printed or typed.
- Including tenths in the odometer reading. The form asks for no tenths.
- Writing exempt for the odometer on a vehicle that is not 20 model years old or older.
- Forgetting the Georgia Tax ID and Sales Tax numbers when the seller is a business.
- Not listing a lienholder in Section D when there is one. The seller certifies there are no liens except those listed.
- Bringing the T-7 without a Georgia title when one is required, for example for a 1986 or newer motor vehicle.
- Only the seller signing. Section E has signature lines for both sellers and buyers.
Questions about Form T-7
Does Form T-7 need to be notarized?
The form has signature and date lines for sellers and buyers and no notary section. It does not mention notarization. Rules vary by situation, so check the official Georgia DOR guidance.
Does a T-7 replace the Georgia title?
No. The form says a Georgia certificate of title is required for 1986 or newer model year motor vehicles, motorcycles, campers, travel trailers and car or tow dollies of 2,001 pounds or more, and for 1963 or newer mobile homes.
What does exempt mean for the odometer?
The form says vehicles twenty model years old or older are exempt from odometer disclosure, and the seller may write exempt in the odometer space.
Where do I take the completed T-7?
To the county tag office in the county where the primary purchaser lives, with the other required documents and any tax due.
Is the price on the T-7 the amount TAVT is charged on?
The form does not say. It points to the Title Ad Valorem Tax estimator on dor.georgia.gov, which estimates TAVT based on the value of the vehicle.
