Child Supplement Application (Kinderzuschlag form KiZ 1) in short

Parents can get it if they earn enough for themselves but their income does not, or only just, cover the whole family. The official notes say it is currently up to 297 euros per child per month. On paper you also add the applicant and partner annex and one child annex for each child under 25 in your household.

| Section 2 | Partner in your household The person you live with and share the family's living costs with, married or not. |

| Section 5 | Children who do not live with you all the time For example with the other parent or at boarding school. It is enough to say whether the child is regularly with the other parent 1 to 12 or 13 to 17 days. |
| Section 6 | Other children under 25 without Kindergeld Children under 25 for whom you and your partner get no Kindergeld and who stay with you part of the time. The notes say they also need an Anlage Kind. |
| Section 7 | Other people in your household For example step, foster or grandchildren, parents or siblings, with their relationship to you. |
| Declaration | Date and signatures You sign. Your partner signs as second applicant if Kindergeld for the children is paid partly to you and partly to them. A further signature allows the Familienkasse to use data from your Kindergeld file. |
Common mistakes to avoid
- Sending only KiZ 1. The notes say the applicant and partner annex and one child annex per child are required.
- Naming the parent who does not receive Kindergeld as applicant.
- Applying late. Kinderzuschlag starts only from the month you apply.
- Not reapplying after six months.
- Missing the partner's signature as second applicant when Kindergeld is split between you.
- Not proving housing costs. Tenants show current costs in the month of application, owners the costs of the previous calendar year.
- Not enclosing a residence permit when you are not an EU, EEA or Swiss national.
