Common mistakes to avoid
- Filing a joint petition before the 90-day window opens. USCIS may reject it. Use the USCIS When to File calculator.
- Missing the deadline. Status ends automatically 2 years after it was granted if no petition is filed.
- Filing jointly but forgetting the spouse's signature in Part 8.
- Sending too little evidence that the marriage was entered in good faith, such as joint leases, bank accounts, insurance, or children's birth certificates.
- Leaving out copies of the front and back of the green card for you and each included child.
- Listing a child who did not get conditional status within 90 days of you. That child must file separately.
- Not signing, or using a typed or stamped signature. USCIS rejects unsigned petitions.
- Sending foreign language documents without a full certified English translation.
