Common mistakes to avoid
- Not signing question 1. The County needs at least your name, address and signature to begin the application.
- Using CF 285 to apply for CalWORKs or Medi-Cal. The form is for CalFresh only. Ask the County for an application for other programs.
- Skipping the questions used for 3 day benefits. The form asks you to answer questions 1, 6 through 8, 11 and 16 and give proof of identity if you have it.
- Leaving out expenses or not giving proof of them. The form says not giving proof is the same as saying you do not have that expense.
- Leaving out people you buy and prepare food with. Question 6a asks for all of them, including you.
- Missing the interview. The form says you must have an interview with the County, and to keep it even if you do not have all your proof yet.
- Sending back the coversheet and program rules pages. Those pages say to take and keep them for your records.
