| Vehicle | Mileage The odometer reading at the time of sale. |

| New owner | Buyer statements, place, date and signature The buyer ticks that they acquire the vehicle at the date and time given and were told its administrative status, then signs. |
Common mistakes to avoid
- Filling in only one copy. You need 2: copy 1 for the seller, copy 2 for the buyer.
- Leaving out the time of sale, which protects the seller for offences committed on the day of the sale.
- Missing the signature of a co-holder named on the carte grise.
- Not declaring the sale on the ANTS website within 15 days.
- Not giving the buyer the vehicle status certificate under 15 days old and the transfer code.
- Not crossing out the carte grise with 'vendu le' or 'cédé le', the date, time and signature.
- Selling for scrapping without the VHU approval number, which is required for a car, a van or a three wheel moped.
Questions about French Vehicle Sale Certificate (Cerfa 15776)
Is the certificat de cession enough to sell my car in France?
No. You must also declare the sale on the ANTS website within 15 days and give the buyer the crossed out carte grise, the vehicle status certificate under 15 days old, the transfer code and, if required, a roadworthiness test under 6 months old.
Do I need it if I give the car away?

How many copies do I print?
2 copies. The seller keeps copy 1 and gives copy 2 to the buyer.
What if I lost the carte grise?
The form lets you tick NO for 'registration certificate present' and give the reason it is missing.
What is the code de cession for?
The seller gets it when declaring the sale online. It is valid for 15 days and lets the buyer apply for a carte grise in their name on the ANTS website.
