Give their name, SIN and net income, then count the weeks or months that applied.
Part DYou were enrolled in an educational program
For a claimant who was in school, either as the only supporting person or at the same time as the other person. Count full-time weeks and part-time months, then compare the lines listed to find the allowable deduction for line 21400.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • The higher income person claiming without a Part C situation. The form says the lower income person must complete the form unless one of the Part C or Part D situations applies.
  • Leaving out the social insurance number of an individual caregiver. The form says you need it when an individual provided the care.
  • Claiming tuition for a regular school program, sports study programs, lessons such as tennis, or Scouts registration. The form lists these as expenses you cannot claim.
  • Claiming payments to the child's other parent, to someone you claimed a dependant amount for, or to a relative under 18.
  • Claiming more than the weekly maximum for boarding school or overnight camps. Part A note (1) sets a weekly limit for each line.
  • Not attaching Form T2201 when you count a child for whom the disability amount can be claimed, if it has not been filed before.
  • Claiming amounts that were reimbursed or covered by financial assistance.
