Form I-864EZ in short
Form I-864EZ is a shorter version of the Form I-864 Affidavit of Support for simple family cases. The petitioner uses it to show they can support one sponsored relative with income from salary or pension shown on Forms W-2. It is a contract with the U.S. government.
| Issued by | U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) |
|---|---|
| Current version | Edition 08/24/26 (checked 2026-10-25) |
| Who fills it in | The U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident or U.S. national who filed Form I-129F, I-130, I-600 or I-800 for the relative, if the relative is the only person on the petition and the sponsor's qualifying income comes entirely from salary or pension shown on Forms W-2. Joint sponsors, substitute sponsors, I-140 sponsors, and sponsors whose salary or pension is not enough must use Form I-864 instead. |
| Who receives it | USCIS or the Department of State, filed by the sponsored immigrant. |
| Where to send it | Give the completed affidavit and documents to the sponsored immigrant. They file it with a consular officer together with Form OF-230, or with an immigration officer together with Form I-485. |
| Deadline | No separate deadline. It is filed with the immigrant's Green Card or immigrant visa case. |
| Fee | USCIS: $0 (Form G-1055 Fee Schedule, edition 10/16/26, checked 2026-10-25). The USCIS page says the Department of State charges a fee in some cases and links to travel.state.gov for details. |

What changed
USCIS published the 08/24/26 edition on Aug. 31, 2026. From Oct. 1, 2026, USCIS only accepts the 08/24/26 edition. The new edition includes a privacy release that lets USCIS request information, including credit reports, from consumer reporting agencies. Sponsors with a credit freeze may be asked to release it.
How to fill out Form I-864EZ, line by line
| Part 1 | Qualifying to use Form I-864EZ Answer the three eligibility questions. If you cannot answer Yes to all of them, use Form I-864 instead. |
| Part 2 | Information about you (sponsor) Your name, mailing and physical address, country of domicile, date and country of birth, Social Security number (required), immigration status, A-Number if any and military service. |
| Part 3 | Information about the immigrant The sponsored immigrant's name, mailing address, citizenship, date of birth, A-Number if any and phone number. |
| Part 4 | Household size Count yourself, the immigrant, your spouse, dependent children under 21, other tax dependents, and anyone you still support under an earlier I-864 or I-864EZ. Item 1 already counts you and the immigrant. |

| Part 6 | Sponsor's contract and signature Read the contract and sign. By signing, you agree to support the immigrant if needed and to repay certain public benefits the immigrant receives. |
| Parts 7 to 9 | Interpreter, preparer and additional information Interpreter and preparer sign only if used. Use Part 9 for answers that do not fit. |
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using Form I-864EZ when more than one person is immigrating on the same petition.
- Using it as a joint sponsor or substitute sponsor. Those sponsors must file Form I-864.
- Relying on self-employment, investment or other income not shown on Forms W-2.
- Counting household size wrong, for example leaving out people still supported under an earlier affidavit.
- Leaving out the Social Security number, which the instructions say is required.
- Using the 10/17/24 edition after Oct. 1, 2026.
- Not attaching the federal tax return or IRS transcript, or sending a copy without the W-2s and 1099s.
Questions about Form I-864EZ
Can I use Form I-864EZ instead of Form I-864?
Only if all three apply: you filed the petition for the relative, the relative is the only person on the petition, and your qualifying income comes entirely from salary or pension shown on Forms W-2.
How much income do I need?
At least 125 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for your household size, or 100 percent if you are on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces or Coast Guard and sponsoring your spouse or minor child. The amounts are on Form I-864P.
How long does the sponsorship last?
Until the immigrant becomes a U.S. citizen or can be credited with 40 qualifying quarters of work. It also ends if either of you dies, or if the immigrant stops being a permanent resident and leaves the United States. Divorce does not end it.
Who files the form?
The sponsor gives it to the immigrant, who files it with Form I-485 or with the immigrant visa application.
What if my salary is not enough?
Use Form I-864 instead. It allows household members (Form I-864A), assets and joint sponsors.
Is there a fee?
USCIS lists $0 for Form I-864EZ. The Department of State may charge a fee in some cases.
