Form 4506-C in short
Form 4506-C lets you authorize a lender or other approved company to get your IRS tax transcripts through the Income Verification Express Service (IVES). It is most often signed during a mortgage or loan application. You fill in and sign it, and the IVES participant, not you, sends it to the IRS.
| Issued by | Internal Revenue Service (IRS) |
|---|---|
| Current version | October 2022 (checked 2026-10-25) |
| Who fills it in | Individuals and businesses whose income is being verified, usually at the request of a mortgage lender, bank or credit union. The taxpayer signs it. The IVES participant named on line 5a submits it. |
| Who receives it | The IRS IVES team at the participant's assigned service center. Transcripts go to the IVES participant on line 5a and the client company on line 5d, not to the taxpayer. |
| Where to send it | Do not send it to the IRS yourself. Give the signed form to the lender or IVES participant. The participant faxes it with the approved IVES cover sheet to its assigned service center (Austin IVES Team 844-249-6238, Kansas City IVES Team 844-249-8128, or Ogden IVES Team 844-249-8129), or submits the request online through IVES. |
| Deadline | The IRS must receive the form within 120 days of the date the taxpayer signed it, or it will be rejected. |
| Fee | The taxpayer pays no IRS fee on the form. IVES participants pay the IRS $4 for each transcript requested. |

What changed
The October 2022 revision added the client company that requests transcripts (line 5d) and increased the number of Wage and Income transcript requests (up to three form types on line 7a). IVES now also accepts online requests that taxpayers can review, approve or reject in their IRS online account or business tax account.

- Listing a spouse on line 2a but having only one spouse sign.
- Entering more than one tax form number on line 6.
- Putting an SSN in the customer file number or unique identifier on lines 5b and 5c.
- Letting more than 120 days pass between signing and IRS receipt.
- A business signer leaving out an acceptable title, such as Managing Member for certain LLCs.
Questions about Form 4506-C
Why is my lender asking me to sign Form 4506-C?
Lenders use it to confirm the income you reported to the IRS. It authorizes the IRS to send your transcripts to the lender's IVES participant for that purpose.
What is the difference between Form 4506-C and Form 4506-T?

The IRS must receive it within 120 days of the signature date. After that it is rejected and you would need to sign a new one.
Can I sign Form 4506-C electronically?
Only if the IVES participant has opted in to accept electronic signatures. If you sign electronically, the electronic signature box must be checked.
Can I refuse or reject an IVES request?
Yes. You can decline to sign, or reject an online request in your IRS online account or business tax account. The IRS only sends records to the lender if you approve.
How fast does the lender get my transcript?
The IRS describes online IVES requests as near real time, with transcripts delivered in hours. Faxed requests take 2 to 3 business days to process.
