Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using the V62 when nothing has changed and you were already the registered keeper. A duplicate can be ordered online or by phone.
  • Leaving out the VIN, chassis or frame number, which means DVLA will return the form.
  • Using initials or joint names in the keeper details.
  • Sending cash or a blank, damaged or altered cheque or postal order.
  • Not enclosing the green new keeper slip from the most recent V5C when claiming no fee.
  • Applying too soon after buying. DVLA says to allow 4 weeks from the purchase date.
  • Using the form for a category A or B salvage vehicle. DVLA will not issue a V5C for these.
